ACT Wazalendo Election 2020 Briefing: 28 October 2020 (AM)

This note serves as a briefing note for interested parties following the Tanzania and Zanzibar General Election 2020.

This note details reports received the night before and during Election Day (28 October 2020). It should be read together with the briefing from yesterday yesterday (27 October 2020). This will be updated after polls close today. Reports are as follows:

  1. 10 people that have died as a result of police use of live ammunition in Zanzibar yesterday and Monday. Approximately 50 people are injured and as of now, 57 people have been arrested.
  2. In Zanzibar, reports were received of votes being counted from yesterday’s early voting prior to voting starting today.
  3. At Kajengwa Polling Centre, Makundichi Constituency, Zanzibar, 49 early votes were reported as being cast yesterday but 100 votes were reported having been cast prior to voting starting this morning.
  4. In Kilindoni, Mafia Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents were not allowed in 7 polling stations.
  5. In Kigaeni, Mafia Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents were not allowed in 6 polling stations.
  6. In Ndagoni, Mafia Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents were not allowed in 3 polling stations.
  7. In Miti Mirefu Ward, Segerea Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents were not allowed in 52 polling stations.
  8. In Vingunguti Ward, Segerea Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents were not allowed in 40 polling stations.
  9. In Mbagala Ward and Mbagala Kuu Wards, Mbagala Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents are not allowed in polling stations.
  10. In Etaro Ward, Musoma Rural Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT polling agents have been prevented from accessing 9 polling Stations.
  11. In Pemba Mnazi polling station in Kigamboni Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents have been refused entry.
  12. At Chamazi polling station, Mbagala Constituency, Tanzania mainland, accredited ACT polling agents have been refused entry.
  13. In Tandale ward, Kinondoni Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited 80 ACT Wazalendo polling agents out of 100 have been prevented from accessing the polling station.
  14. In Malindi Constituency, Zanzibar, voters at Mlandege Ward were given ballot papers for Malindi Ward.
  15. At Kilindi Polling Station in Nungwi Constituency, Zanzibar, a Zanzibar Special Forces Unit was alleged to have taken over the station to engage in multiple voting. While there, they surrounded the polling centre keeping voters 50 metres away. It has been reported by an agent that 5 ballots were issued to one Special Forces operative. When this was raised by the agent, they were removed from the polling station.
  16. In Malindi Constituency, Zanzibar, all CCM reserve polling agents were allowed into voting centres as well as those from the Democratic Party. ACT Wazalendo reserve agents were not allowed in.
  17. In Masasi Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, 53 accredited ACT polling agents were refused entry to polling stations.
  18. In Igunga Ward, Igunga Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents were refused entry to polling stations.
  19. In Lilombe Ward, Milui Ward and Likongolewe Ward polling stations in Liwale Constituency, Tanzania Mainland, accredited ACT Wazalendo polling agents were refused entry.
